Moon Valley and Northgate
The community of Moon Valley is located between Bell Road to the north and Thunderbird Road to the south, and from 19thAvenue to the west and 16th Street to the east. The major neighborhoods within this classic community include among others, Northgate, Thunderbird Valley, Moon Mountain Estates, Moon Valley Country Estates, Coral Gables Estates, Moon Valley Cluster Homes, Moon Valley Meadows, Tamarac at Moon Valley, Turtle Creek, and Deer Valley Estates.
For example, Northgate features a mixture of patio homes and single family homes built by Pulte Homes in 2006. The patio homes community is gated and features a community pool and park. Coral Gables Estates is a guard gated community featuring luxury homes, many perched on hillsides. Moon Valley Cluster Homes features ranch style homes built by Gold Mar Construction in the mid-1970s, and many back to the Moon Valley Country Club golf course or the MVCC greenbelts. The majority of homes in Moon Valley Northgate are single family, but there are several condominium complexes including Turn Condominium, Desert Shadow Condominium, and Sungate at Moon Mountain Condominium.
Moon Valley Northgate is centrally located to several outdoor activities, including golf and hiking. The Moon Valley Country Club is a private club with a par 72, 18-hole championship course, redesigned by Bob Cupp and Associates. This course ranges from 5,278 yards to 7210 yards in length, and considered to be challenging for all levels of players. The country club also features a tennis center with 8 lighted hard courts, a fitness center with racquetball courts and group fitness classes, and an aquatic center with a year-round pool. Another golf course within this map area is the Cave Creek Golf Course.
Things to Do: For fitness and nature lovers, Moon Valley Park is a very popular community park with a basketball court, tennis court, multipurpose sports fields, walking paths, shaded play area and picnic areas. Other community parks include Werner’s Field Park, Central Park and Telephone Pioneer Park. The nearby North Mountain Recreation Area, south of Moon Valley Northgate, has a few hiking trails, one of them paved, making it perfect for beginners. Hikers looking for more of a challenge will enjoy the 1.4-mile hike to Shaw Butte. To the east of this area is the Phoenix Mountains Preserve with two major hikes on Lookout Mountain. The first numbered hike is the Shadow Mountain Mega Loop, and the second is the Lookout Mountain Circumference Trail. Both are accessible from the Acoma Drive Trailhead.
Shopping areas include the Turf Paradise Marketplace and Union Plaza Shopping Center among other small shopping centers.
Schools: The Moon Valley Northgate area is served by the Deer Valley Unified School District and the Washington Elementary School District and the Glendale Union High School District.
